Caravan Holidays UK
Why are caravan holidays in the UK so popular?
First of all forget the old fashioned perception of caravans as being cold and dingy aluminium shells with no mod cons and having to get up in the middle of the night and try and pee in a bucket without waking everyone up! This is a common misconception many of us have due to childhood memories of the “bad old days” of caravan holidays in the UK. Modern caravans come hooked up with water and electricity and generally are kept in a clean and tidy condition, are constructed to high levels of quality and thermal insulation so no more cold nights, caravans are fully equipped for your holidays and most have fully integrated kitchens, their own privatebathroom/shower-rooms and TV. Caravans have truly entered an exciting and new era, in fact for budget conscious families, a caravan holiday is perhaps the best choice for a holiday in the UK!
Having your own “home from home” is a real plus on holidays, not having to depend on anyone else and being able to cook your own meals using ingredients bought from supermarket can save families a fortune when compared to buying food in a restaurant and cafe for example. In addition caravans are popular as a low cost “base” for adventure holiday seekers on a budget such as climbers, hillwalkers etc.
Touring, full and static caravan holidays
Touring caravans are usually no larger than 8 foot wide and can have 1 or 2 axles (2 or 4 wheels) and are designed to be towed by non commercial vehicles, full caravans are generally stronger and can be up to 10 feet wide, and really can be classed as a home on wheels, however when moving a full size caravan please check allowed towing weight for your vehicle as many large caravans are simply to heavy for the average family car. Static caravans can’t be towed, as they are too heavy to tow and have a basic chassis without suspension or brakes, so are normally transported on the back of a large flatbed lorry. Static caravans are usually sited on caravan parks where the owner of the site leases a plot of land to the caravan owner, these static caravans can be bought with or without this lease, however if bought without lease will generally have to be moved at purchaser expense to new site.
Insurance for caravans
According to AA caravan insurance “there has been a sharp rise in the popularity of caravanning and a corresponding increase in thefts of and from caravans. Caravan insurance is a way of protecting your caravan and contents from theft, damage, or potential accidents on a daily basis, whether outside your home, on the public highway or parked on a campsite. There are different types of policy to cover all types of caravans, such as static caravans, tourer vans and even camping equipment and accessories. It is bad enough to have your caravan holidays ruined by an accident or theft without ending up out of pocket too!
