Teardrop caravans – how they are made

Imagine having your own mobile space, able to pack up and head for new horizons! Caravans are as popular in the Uk as they ever have been with new smaller rigs, perfect for first time buyers, being the hottest trend of all. teardrop or egg shaped caravans are comfy for two and have all the mod cons of bigger vans in a more compact package..

The chassis is constructed with a plywood base for wheel axle which is zinc coated to vprotect against corrosion, a metallic laminate floor is then added and wheels are bolted on underneath. lots of storage is built in with storage under beds and units. Modern heating systems can be fitted for all year round camping and when used in conjunction with the high insulation levels (typically polystyrene) these vans are cosy even in the middle of a typical british winter.

A teardrop caravan was used to break the caravan land speed record, although manufacturer safe speed limit is 130kmh, in Germany Harry Mueller set the record in Nov 2004 of 230kmh!!!

Originally designed back in the 1950′s this shape is having something of a revival, with aluminium body and funky plastic trim these teardrop caravans appeal to young buyers in particular.
